So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 NIV
I’ve always wondered why men and women are so very different (thanks to books like Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus). We also hear stereotypes like “Men ought to be strong” or “Women out to be gentle and compassionate”. That is why we have terms like “masculine traits” and “feminine traits”.
But “strong” can be dangerous when it becomes aggressive and violent; while “gentle” can become undesirable if it becomes soft and powerless.
As I begin to know and understand more about Jesus, I begin to see Jesus possessing both “masculine” and “feminine” traits in perfection. He is powerful (strong), yet gentle. In His gentleness, He is not weak but upholds justice.
It then made me realised how beautiful a holy matrimony between one man and one woman is. Both honours the gender differences and allows the differences to complement one another. When two becomes one, truly, God’s whole image is reflected. (God created mankind in His own image, male and female He created them…)
